INTERVIEW

ENGLISH

When and how did you come up with the Blòt Heathen project?

The idea of the project jumped in my mind in the far away January 2016, strongly inspired by the music of the Wardruna and Heilung. The initial idea was to create a concept album (still in the process of being terminated) on the "Blòt" rite, from which the project takes its name.

At the time I was in close contact with Leonardo Sorrentino, a long-time friend and playmate, so I immediately offered him to work together with an album.

At first it was a little hesitant, but soon he became passionate, and if it had not been for him, I do not think the Blòt Heathen project would have started.

You say you worked with Leonardo, but all your releases on bandcamp have credits that refer only to you, and his name is only visible on the official site, which, by the way, seems to be stuck in 2016.

Unfortunately, the website has been left a little to its fate, but soon I will put my hand back to restore it.

The credits are never attributed to Leonardo on the web page, because those releases are solo projects, with Leo we worked together to create the homonymous album "Blòt", soon to be released and of which we will send you a copy in release.

Excuse the curiosity, but what exactly is your album "Blòt", repeatedly announced and never released? In these two years the genre of the music you have published has changed often, and we ask ourselves what you will propose as a new album.

"Blòt" is the pure essence of the Blòt Heathen project. The creation of the album was for me a very strong artistic, working and collaborative experience with Leonardo, with whom I practically lived together for six months, using his home as a recording room.

Working at Blòt was, and is, the strongest musical experience I've ever experienced, in my own little way. Even now, after two years, whenever I listen to the song "Bless", I get chills all over my body!

The album is a great mix of all the sounds that can be heard on the bandcamp page, but it has something more.

In each track you can clearly hear the strong musical influence of Leonardo, which allowed the album to be much more original than the rest of my digital outputs.

The inclusion of the Didgeridoo and Leonardo's flute, have allowed the album to take a very tribal shape in some parts, while maintaining in some a strong ritual component, without eliminating the contamination of electronic music typical of my productions.

It looks very promising, we can not wait to hear the demo! So with Leonardo you practically "generated" this project, now you do not work with him anymore?

After our live (jumped) of September 2016, the Blòt Heathen as a duo have unclearly dissolved. The time to devote to each other was little, and perhaps having worked so closely together for a long time has created some tension, because we could not always manage to reconcile our interests in the production of the album, and in particular during the preparation of our live debut.

But I firmly believe that in the future Leonardo and I, after the publication of "Blòt", will have the opportunity and time to start another collaboration, maybe for an EP, which is less demanding and does not occupy all the time we have put in make the album.

Regarding the release of Blòt, do you plan to also produce CDs / Vinyls?

Absolutely yes! For lack of funds, we will make a very limited edition, but Blòt must come out on CD, and I assure you that it will also come out in physical format.

The latest album you published, "Modern Ritualism", is very different from your previous releases, what do you want to tell us about it?

Actually I consider it an almost experimental album, and in fact I waited for almost a year to publish it, for fear that the fans would not like the experiment ... but apparently I was wrong! And I was really happy, because in a few days I have done many compliments for the idea and for the quality of the tracks.

Ok, but what does the concept of the album mean?

To combine electronic and instrumental sounds, with strong grooves and well-present percussion, which is not very audible in my previous releases.

For its realization, in particular of the track "Preparing For Battle", I was inspired by the OST of Vikings composed by Trevor Morris.

What are the bands that have most inspired your / your work?

Surely, first of all, the Wardruna, for which I had a real fanaticism in 2016-2017, the Heilung, which reflect in my opinion, much the style that I try to implement in my songs, and finally the Gjallahorn, which are those with a more "traditional" sound.

If you had to appoint collaborators who were absolutely essential for the design and implementation of the project, who would you mention?

Well, as already said, certainly Leonardo Sorrentino, but also Enea Luisi, who has accompanied us throughout the journey of the album supporting and playing with us (a track of the new album also has its participation), Alberto De Maria, who helped us prepare our live and was a "turnist". And finally Adriano Donninnelli (my nephew), who is credited with giving us the instrumentation for the whole period of the recordings so that the album could be recorded!

INTERVISTA
